The Beach In Winter

The sea and the sky nearly the same color.

I came out here to balance on the ice.

Friends warned me where it might be the thinnest but

I did not listen.

I wanted to bury something in the wet sand.

It held the color of indifference, neutrality.

I waited until I was alone to whisper my hymn.

May the waves take this offering.

A love that never learned how to swim.
